Scammell Commander Tank Transporter
The Scammell Commander was designed to carry the British Challenger-1 MBT, and comprises a Scammell Tractor and Crane Fruehauf semi-trailer. This combination was the UK Army standard tank transporter until the introduction of the Oshkosh HET around 2004.
The Scammell Commander tractor is powered by a Rolls-Royce CV12 TCE 625bhp engine, and can travel at up to 40 mph with a full load (an all up weight of 103 tonnes). A large winch is fitted for vehicle recovery, and a smaller capstan winch for cable deployment and recovery. The tractor has a fully detailed chassis, suspension and winch, and the cab has opening doors and full internal detail. The etched brass fret includes front grilles, mesh covers, number and makers plates and even windscreen wipers. A set of decals for UK, NATO and Gulf war use are also included.
The Crane Fruehauf 70 ton semi-trailer is capable of transporting all UK AFV’s up to early versions of Challenger-2 and comes complete with etched brass detail set, shackles, chain, spare wheels, trailer tools and decals.
This superb 1/35th scale model was researched and produced by Tim Babb and was awarded the Modell-Fan Model of the year in 1994.
The completed model is 22”(560mm) long, 4” (102mm) wide, 3.75” (95mm) high.
