Bedford OYD Armadillo Mk-III
This extensively researched 1/35th scale model depicts a late version of the Bedford OYD with steel rear body. These basic vehicles were modified for the RAF to mount an ‘Armadillo’ gravel filled wooden ‘pillbox’, and an RAF ‘COW’ Gun. The vehicle was armed with Lewis light machine guns, grenades, rifles and the COW gun could fire 1.5 Pound HE shells in fast bursts of 5 rounds. ‘COW’ stands for Coventry Ordnance Works.
These Armadillo vehicles were deployed for airfield defence and were later handed over to equip the Home Guard, where they served until the end of WW-2.
The model features a complete chassis, engine and transmission, along with extensive etched brass detail sets. A decal set is also included. The master model was researched and produced by , David Jane, with additional work by Louis Wright, Rob Tearle & Derek Hansen.
