Mighty ANTAR Mk-2 (5th wheel) Tractor
The Thornycroft Mighty Antar was originally developed in 1949 as a super-heavy civilian 6x4 tractor for hauling steel pipeline sections across the Iraqi desert. It was named in honour of the Arabian Poet-warrior Antar Ibn Shadded (famed for his strength and endurance). At the time ANTAR was the largest tractor ever made in the UK and was further developed as a tank transporter for the British Army, and over a period of 35 years from the early 1950’s to mid 1980’s, Mighty ANTAR performed all the British Army heavy haulage tasks. Whether the load was a; Centurion, Conqueror, Chieftain or a host of lesser tonnage AFV’s, ANTAR lugged them around from A to B.
ANTAR was ultimately replaced by the equally impressive Scammell Commander. This extensive 1:35th scale resin model kit by David Jane, depicts the FV12002 Mk-2 (5th wheel) version for towing semi-trailers. The kit comes with an etched brass detailing set, extensive full colour decals and full chassis, cab interior, engine, transmission and winch details. We have matching semi-trailer kits K169 and K170 to suit this tractor.
