This Diamond-T Motor Car Company design from Chicago USA originally met a 1941 British Army requirement to haul and recover tanks in the 40 Ton class, and was used throughout WW-2 matched to a 40 Ton trailer designed in the UK by Cranes (Dereham) Ltd.
In UK service this tractor continued in original form until the Mid 1950’s where most (But not all) were re-engined with the Rolls Royce C6NFL-143 Diesel as depicted in this model. And the classic combination for the new Centurion Tank included the DYSON 50-Ton trailer (our kit K168) and this combination became standard until the introduction of the heavier Conqueror and Chieftain tanks and the Mighty Antar with the equally huge semi-trailers rated at up to 70 Tons. This tractor continued in service until 1975. Thirty-three years of continious service! However even then many found a hard working home in the heavy haulage industry for a further decade or so.
